Do I need to show a minimum income to obtain, renew or convert my permesso di soggiorno?
For any type of permesso di soggiorno it is necessary to show that the foreigner has a minimum income, this minimum income must be at least the same as the social annual allowance, that changes year by year.
How Much is the social allowance this year?
This year, 2026, the social allowance is 546,24€ per month, so the social annual allowance is 7101,12€.
How can I show it?
Depending on the type of permesso, there are different ways to show it:
- For the Student Permesso and Ricerca lavoro permesso, the questura asks for a bank statement (that must be from an Italian bank), however not all the questuras ask for it and sometimes, for the student permesso they just ask to the foreigner to show his credit card.
- For other types of permesso like the work one or the long term permesso the foreigner cannot use the bank statement, he has to show it with a CUD or tax declaration.
What happen if I don’t have such amount?
They can block the application.
What about the minimum income for the Family Reunification?
When the foreigner wants to bring a relative here, he has to ask for the nulla osta for the Family Reunification, for that the foreigner also has to show a minimum income with a CUD or tax declaration, this minimum income depends from the relatives he wants to bring here, for example to bring one relative he will need to sum up the social annual allowance + the half of it. For example the minimum income for one relative will be 7101,12+3550,56=10.651,68€.
How much do I need to bring 2 relatives?
The foreigner has to add every time the half of the social annual allowance for each relative he wants to bring, so for 2 relatives it will be 7101,12+3550,56+3550,56=14.202,24€
