There is an expiration date on my permesso di soggiorno receipt. What does it mean?

The purpose of the circular was to encourage the questuras to complete the process within a maximum of 9 months. However, in practice, this timeline is rarely met.

What should I do if my receipt is close to the expiration date?

You should go to the questura to request either an updated expiration date or a stamp extending the validity of your receipt.

Can I travel if my receipt is expired?

Traveling with an expired receipt is not advisable.

However, since the receipt is essential for proving your legal stay in Italy, your stay cannot be denied solely because the receipt has expired.
